Free Tutoring children and adults who struggle with basic reading, writing, and/or math

WHO ARE WE?

We’re an all-volunteer organization that provides free tutoring for children and adults who struggle with basic (Kindergarten to Grade 6) reading, writing, and/or math. We are a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that opened its doors August 1, 2019. We are funded through grants, private donations, and fundraisers.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We provide free tutoring for two hours each week. For school-age students we recommend 1 hour, twice each week. Each student has a program designed to meet their specific needs and a tutor assigned to work with them. The tutoring sessions are held in a local library, near the student and the tutor.

WHO DO WE SERVE?

  • Students who are behind in school or struggling to keep up
  • Adults who want to learn to read, write, and do math
  • English Language Learners who speak limited English

WHAT IS OUR GOAL?

Palmetto Literacy Council wants to improve the literacy rates in Horry County.

WHAT DO WE NEED?

Our community has a lot to offer; we need your help to pay for tutoring materials and/or your time as a volunteer to help us enrich the lives of our Horry County children, youth, and adult learners. They will be our employees, employers, and leaders in less time than we think. Let’s help each other build our community by supporting a literate citizenry.
